Vivace Voices

Designed specifically to meet the challenges associated with changing and recently-changed voices, Vivace Voices is a mixed (SATB) choir for secondary school students from Year 8 to the year following Year 12.

Vivace Voices consists of two complementary ensembles − the Vivace Male Ensemble and the Vivace Ladies Chorus − that rehearse and perform separately and then combine to form the SATB choir. Members of Vivace Voices thus have the best of both worlds!

The Vivace Male Ensemble provides a focused, comfortable and supportive environment in which young men are encouraged to keep singing after they leave primary school and to effectively meet the challenges associated with changing and recently-changed voices.

The Vivace Ladies Chorus develops further the SSAA vocal and performance skills established in StellaVoce, through a positive personal development and performance program that develops confidence while exploring the beauty, flexibility and expressive power of young female voices.

As well as presenting a number of concerts each year as part of the Queensland Youth Choir’s Concert Series, Vivace Voices appears at Christmas festivities, conferences, sporting and community events, weddings and other social functions. Vivace also performs and tours in association with both StellaVoce and VoiceWorks. In effect, it provides an exciting, confidence-building transition between these two groups.

Within Vivace Voices there is a commitment to excellence and a strong focus on performance and presentation within which the group combines the artistic crafts of voice production and choral singing with the physically demanding art of stagecraft. Members enjoy singing a wide variety of music including contemporary, pop, jazz, rock, musical theatre, gospel, Australiana and the classics.

Since its inception, Vivace Voices has earned a reputation as a talented and entertaining group with a fine choral sound. It is also a fun group to be part of, with members and directors creating a supportive, caring and committed environment within which to develop members' individual and collective skills.

In 2003, members of VoiceWorks and Vivace Voices represented Australia at Festival 500, an international choral festival held in St John's, Newfoundland, Canada and in 2004 they were invited to perform at Choralfest, the bi-annual Australian choral festival organised by ANCA, the Australian National Choral Association. In January 2006, members of VoiceWorks and Vivace Voices toured to Europe visitng choirs in Finland, Estonia, Sweden and England.

Vivace Voices offers young people the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and challenging performance ensemble. Admission is via an audition which is conducted in a friendly and supportive environment that recognises both developed talent and potential.

The Vivace Voices Member and Parent Handbook provides additional information on key policies and procedures adopted to ensure that members enjoy a safe, caring and supportive environment, and that QYC continues to achieve a standard of excellence in performance and appearance.
