General introduction

Established in 1984, QYC provides children and young adults - from Prep. to age 25 - with unique, high quality choral training and performance opportunities. The program of weekly rehearsals and an annual camp incorporates aspects of singing, choreography and stagecraft. The various ensembles that constitute the Queensland Youth Choir perform a wide variety of repertoire including contemporary, classical, popular, folk, rock, gospel, jazz, art music, musical theatre and Australiana. Most performances incorporate a number of pieces which are specially choreographed to add an additional visual dimension to the overall effect.

QYC also runs early childhood music classes - Bambino Music - for young children up to five years of age.

Members take pride in belonging to an organisation that is highly respected both nationally and internationally, and that performs in its own concert series, on tours, and at special events including weddings, sporting fixtures, conventions and community events.

QYC is a non-profit, community-based organisation which manages four choral ensembles - Poco VociStellaVoce (previously the Queensland Children's Choir), Vivace Voices and VoiceWorks.

QYC has its office and rehearsal space at the Old Museum Building in the inner Brisbane suburb of Bowen Hills.

Within the framework provided by its vision and values, Queensland Youth Choir provides a caring and supportive environment in which children and young adults can strive to achieve choral and performance excellence through the development of musical knowledge, singing and performance technique, self-confidence, teamwork, personal friendships and a sense of commitment to the community.

QYC retains a group of professionally qualified, experienced and dedicated staff, a number of whom are former members of the choir.
