History

QYC 1984The Queensland Youth Choir was founded by Robert Clark in 1984 as a training program to provide an opportunity for young singers, aged 15 to 25 years, to develop as choral performers across a wide spectrum of musical styles.

During its time, the choir has produced some very fine young singers and performers, a number of whom have gone on to be highly regarded professionals.

In 1987 the Queensland Children's Choir was formed under the umbrella of the Queensland Youth Choir with founding director Rhonda Coady, who continues to lead the choir today. In 2005 it was decided to change the name to StellaVoce, to better match the nomenclature of the other QYC ensembles.

In 1992 the older members of QYC changed their name to VoiceWorks. Bella Voce - a group for young ladies - was also formed at this time and performed for a number of years.

In 1996, a Performance Training Program was established under the direction of Sandra Milliken to bridge the gap between the Queensland Children's Choir and VoiceWorks. This popular group grew in number and developed further to become Vivace Voices in 1997.

This same year also saw the establishment of a junior music program - Poco Voci - extending vocal training to the five to nine year age group.

The most recent development of the organisation came in 2007 with the establishment of Bambino Music, a music education program for young children from birth to age 5.
